With Jazz Heritage Orchestra in Performance of Abyssinian Mass by Wynton Marsalis

Sat. April 8th, 2017| 7pm

Cleveland, OH US

"The Abyssinan Mass" will be performed by the Cleveland State University Black Studies Program's Jazz Heritage Orchestra and a local Community Mass Choir. In 2008, Wynton Marsalis composed this majestic blend of gospel and jazz music to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Harlem's historic Abyssinian Baptist Church. In 2013, Marsalis and New York City's Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Damien Sneed's Chorale Le Chateau toured and recorded "The Abyssinian Mass." The Jazz Heritage Orchestra is only the second professional band to perform the piece outside of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. We are pleased that Damien Sneed, a musical virtuoso, will be coming to Cleveland to conduct the performance at CSU. Everyone should experience this phenomenal musical event. Advance ($20), group ($15) and student ($15) tickets are available online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/csu-abyssinian-mass-tickets-32088019129?aff=eac2 Tickets may also be purchased in the Black Studies Program office at the address on the attached flyer. At the door, general admission tickets $25 and students $15.
